Appearance

Samael

Samael is close to old age, with dark blue eyes, a brooding brow and a leathery, wrinkled face. He always wears a wide brimmed pointy hat (under which he’s bald), a couple of necklaces full of assorted magical sigils and a locket with pictures of his family.

Background

Samael has worked as a scholar for most of his life, happily married with a young son. A year or so ago he had a heart attack during which he believes he had a divine vision. In this vision he saw The Burning Legion rising up once more to destroy Azeroth, the Alliance unable to pinpoint the weaknesses of their enemy. When he recovered he decided he had been Chosen and it was his duty to research Demonology and find out the Achilles heel he’s convinced they have.

Unsurprisingly no-one else would believe him as he took up learning about the arcane obsessively, to the exclusion of all else. When he mistakenly turned the family dog into a Dretch it was too much and his wife and child left him. With nothing left at home and his community shunning him he set out to Stormwind’s Academy of Arcane Sciences to learn all he could about Demons, prevent a 4th war and prove them all wrong.

Character Traits

Samael is normally a very nice, cheery gnome but has erratic bouts of moody paranoia brought on by his growing addiction to the arcane. During these periods he tends to spout his visions of impending doom to any who’ll listen. He’s rather obsessive, with a short attention span and a tendency to mutter and trail off in his sentences.

Reason for Adventuring

He believes the Burning Legion are preparing to rise again - he needs to learn how to stop them, and is travelling the world gathering information and power to this end.

When he’s proved right he plans on returning home a hero and reclaim his family. However, this has two problems. The first is that he’s completely and utterly wrong. The second is that as time passes the arcane magic is starting to twist his motives and memories into a desire to return and extract revenge on his wife for her disloyalty to him and the community for laughing at him.

Samael's Other Party Members

Dase - Human Warrior Rogue

Dase was born in Stormwind and grew up running with the gangs in the canal district. He quickly advanced through petty thievery and pickpocketing until he became a grifter, conning rich women and setting up marks for the rest of the gang. Eventually he became too successful for his own good and was caught in a sting operation and convicted. In a deal to escape a jail sentence he joined the guards for a years service and quickly grew to enjoy the job and the feeling of doing good for others. His years service has just expired, and after being given non-too-subtle hints about the danger of returning to his old ways, he's decided now would be a good time to get out of Stormwind for a while.

Metrius - Dwarf Paladin

Metrius is a stout, fair haired dwarf brimming with youthful vigour and happiness. He used to work the mines with his father and brothers, but it soon became clear that he wasn't the sharpest axe in the armoury, and was just making up valuation of the gems he mined depending on their size and shininess. His family suggested he try something else, and with the horde always threatening that maybe the army would be in need of someone with his cheery nature to raise morale. At the enrolment centre the form was a little confusing with the number of questions and tick boxes, and he found himself assigned to the Paladins. He got his own suit of armour and weapon and was taught how to detect undead and fight evil. Not being entirely sure how to tell whether someone is evil, Metrius' tactic tends to be to go up and ask them. So far, no-one he's questioned has been evil. Maybe making up some leaflets telling them what to look for would help...

Tanavar Staghorn - Night Elf Priest

Tizgot Blastshield - Goblin Tinker

A cloud of smoke still hangs over part of the Dwarven District of Stormwind, some two weeks after a Tizgot's new invention inadvertantly destroyed his shop and those surrounding it. The only surviving items are of the more mundane variety, not a vial of phlogiston or a steam-powered piston in sight. On the plus side, the pile of weapons and armour will go some way to repaying all the damage he's caused, but the law are making him travel with the caravan as a guard to make sure it reaches it's destination safely.

Wendel Chunderstout - Dwarf Warrior Rogue

Wendel, at 60, is still in his youth, though he's still the older of the two dwarves here. His bushy, bright red beard conceals most of his face, which many people consider a blessing due to his striking ugliness. His appearance may be partly due to the years he spent as a slave to his cruel uncle in the Ironforge mithril mines after his immediate family was slaughtered in a brutal horde attack. Deep underground, he learned how to sneak around and avoid the slavers until one day, after a friend had been beaten to death for not meeting his quota, Wendel snapped and killed his uncle with a swing of his miners pick. Realising his situation he gathered what he had and fled on a trade caravan out of Ironforge. With nowhere to go he got a job as one of the caravan guards and has since learned the basics of armour and weapon use.
